## When to Hold Onto a Blank Tile A blank tile is essentially 'wild', but it carries a value of 0 points. Its real value is 'flexibility'. You should almost never use a blank for a low-scoring play (under 20 points).
The only exception is the end of the game, where playing any word is better than holding a tile when the bag is empty.
Using Blanks for 35-Point Bonuses In WWF, playing all 7 tiles gives a 35-point bonus (unlike Scrabble's 50). A blank tile makes hitting this bonus significantly easier.
Save your blank for the moment it completes a 7-letter word ('bingo'). The 35-point jump is usually enough to secure a late-game victory.
Valuing Flexibility Over Instant Points Sometimes, it's better to play a 20-point word and keep your blank for a future turn than to play a 30-point word that uses the blank.
Calculate the 'potential points' of your next turn. If keeping the blank likely leads to a 40+ point delta, patience is the winning strategy.
